If your dental insurance benefits plan is like most others it will reset on a calendar year basis, you will lose out on all unused benefits after December 31st. Dental insurance is unlike medical insurance in the aspect that dental insurance companies provide you with a specific dollar amount to spend on your care each calendar year. This means that you may have those dental dollars that you could use for your health will disappear when your plan renews.
The ADA published a study in 2019 that determined that among adults ages 19-64 who have private dental benefits a whopping 36.5% do not have a single dental claim within the year! That is literally hundreds of thousands of dollars being wasted every year. Routine Checkups
Many dental benefits carriers provide coverage for two routine checkups per every calendar year. Most dental plans cover preventative services at 100% so you will likely have little-to-no out of pocket expense associated with this visit! Dental Treatment
If you have been putting off getting those cavities repaired or taking care your gum issues, or require more extensive restorative treatment, the end of the year is the perfect time to get started. This is especially true if you have already met your annual deductible and have dollars remaining of your maximum. It's a double whammy- in addition to losing your unused benefits by delaying treatment, you will also be required to pay your deductible again.
